# Stripe

Whether a customer actually pays you is a fact about the relationship, and it usually lives somewhere nobody in sales looks. Connecting Stripe puts invoice and payment history on the company record: what has been invoiced, what has been paid, and what is open or late.

## How to connect Stripe to Zero

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
In Stripe, go to **Developers → API keys**, and select **Create restricted key**.\
\&#xNAN;*(Requires privileges in your Stripe account to create API keys.)*

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Give the key the following **read** permissions:

* Customers
* Subscriptions
* Invoices
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}
In Zero, go to **Settings → Connections → Integrations** and find **Stripe integration**.

* Select **Connect Stripe Account**
* Paste the restricted API key into **Stripe Secret Key**
* Click **Connect Account**

<br>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
After connecting, you should see a confirmation in Zero that Stripe is connected.

{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## How the integration works

Zero pulls customers, invoices and payments from Stripe and matches them to companies by customer domain. By default it syncs recent data; a fuller historical pull is available on request.

## Where the data appears in Zero

Add **Stripe properties** — invoices, subscription status, totals — to any list or view:

In reports, choose the **Invoices** record type to chart the same data.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.zero.inc/settings/integrations/stripe.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
